A resident of Newcastle unearthed a valuable book relating to early convict days in Newcastle containing original depositions of the cases heard at the Newcastle Police Office in the year 1829......John Hassett, neglect of duty. It appears that Hassett permitted a man belonging to 28 iron gang under his charge to go about the town. When arrested he was waiting to get some rations. Three days solitary confinement
